Meet Amos

Barrio Dog volunteer Gina Damian of Mason Park Greater East End recruited her neighbor Leticia Vasquez and together they rescued Amos. He is one of the many suffering dogs in this area but he needed immediate attention because he was truly suffering.

Amos was treated at Gulfgate Animal Hospital Friday, April 27, 2012; he has scarcoptic mange (contagious), is heartworm positive and weighs 57 pounds. He was able to receive all his vaccinations and bordatella for boarding. He is currently at AC Boarding.

With some love, care and good medical treatment, we expect Amos to fully recover and be ready for a home within the next few months.

Who We Are

A Home for All is a project of Barrio Dogs, Inc. in Houston, Texas that focuses on our rescued dogs, in particular, those dogs that are living in boarding because we haven't been able to find them foster or permanent homes.

Dogs living in boarding are typically confined to cages or kennels. The isolation and restricted activity can cause health and behavior problems that diminish a dog’s quality of life and chances for adoption. In addition to trained staff, we utilize volunteers to provide our dogs with exercise and human interaction. Our goal is to make their stay in boarding a stimulating and learning experience. Experience has taught us that increased interaction with volunteers improves our dogs’ likelihood of being adopted and making successful transitions into new homes.

While not a rescue group, Barrio Dogs has rescued a number of dogs, many of them injured or ill, as we carry out our mission to educate, empower and transform Houston's East End community where we are based. We do so by raising awareness about proper animal care and educating residents about leash and chain laws, the importance of reporting animal neglect and abuse and above all, promoting and when possible paying for spay and neuter of dogs and cats.
