Meet Lizzy

Barrio Dogs is happy to be participating in 2015's Clear the Shelters program with Telemundo and KPRC Click2 Houston. One of the dogs we're featuring is Lizzy, who was part of a large litter born to a homeless East End mama. Fortunately, the story ends well for the little family although Lizzy is the only family member who still needs her forever home. For more information about her, contact tauna@barriodogs.org.

Barrio Dogs' addresses Houston's stray dog overpopulation by educating residents and focusing on prevention so that fewer animals end up at the shelters. Since we don't have an actual shelter, we will be featuring some of the dogs rescued in Houston's East End with the hope of finding them forever homes on August 15th, the date of the Clear the Shelters event.

Who We Are

A Home for All is a project of Barrio Dogs, Inc. in Houston, Texas that focuses on our rescued dogs, in particular, those dogs that are living in boarding because we haven't been able to find them foster or permanent homes.

Dogs living in boarding are typically confined to cages or kennels. The isolation and restricted activity can cause health and behavior problems that diminish a dog’s quality of life and chances for adoption. In addition to trained staff, we utilize volunteers to provide our dogs with exercise and human interaction. Our goal is to make their stay in boarding a stimulating and learning experience. Experience has taught us that increased interaction with volunteers improves our dogs’ likelihood of being adopted and making successful transitions into new homes.

While not a rescue group, Barrio Dogs has rescued a number of dogs, many of them injured or ill, as we carry out our mission to educate, empower and transform Houston's East End community where we are based. We do so by raising awareness about proper animal care and educating residents about leash and chain laws, the importance of reporting animal neglect and abuse and above all, promoting and when possible paying for spay and neuter of dogs and cats.
